A small but collectible polished piece of Baltic amber at 17.4x10x4.7mm with two insect inclusions visible within. The amber is a warm clear golden color with some natural internal fractures typical of genuine Baltic specimens. Both inclusions are readable within the transparent body - one appears as a darker organic mass while fibrous material from the other extends through the resin, preserving the exact moment of entrapment in extraordinary clarity.
Baltic amber with multiple inclusions in a single piece is always the more collectible specimen. Sourced from Poland, approximately 44-50 million years old. Untreated. About amber
Amber is fossilized tree resin, not a mineral, so it is very light and feels warm to the touch. At 2 to 2.5 on the Mohs scale it scratches very easily.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: amber is soft and melts or cracks with heat. Keep alcohol, perfume, hairspray and solvents away from it: they dissolve its surface.
Wear and storage
Display it on a stand or a soft cloth so it cannot roll or knock against harder stones, and store it wrapped in a soft cloth. It is soft enough to be scratched by a fingernail, so dust it gently.
