The amber is a brilliant saturated golden-yellow with notable warmth and clarity, making the insect particularly visible. Natural internal crazing lines radiate through the amber - a hallmark of genuine Baltic resin - adding to the piece's character without obscuring the inclusion within.
At 10.8ct this is a generously sized amber inclusion piece, offering a larger window around the insect than is typically found in inclusion specimens. Baltic amber from Poland, approximately 44-50 million years old. Completely untreated. About amber
Amber is fossilized tree resin, not a mineral, so it is very light and feels warm to the touch. At 2 to 2.5 on the Mohs scale it scratches very easily.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: amber is soft and melts or cracks with heat. Keep alcohol, perfume, hairspray and solvents away from it: they dissolve its surface.
Wear and storage
Display it on a stand or a soft cloth so it cannot roll or knock against harder stones, and store it wrapped in a soft cloth. It is soft enough to be scratched by a fingernail, so dust it gently.
