A disc-shaped polished piece of Baltic amber at 16x14.4x4.7mm with a preserved mosquito (Diptera) inside. The insect is clearly visible through the warm golden translucent amber, its delicate long legs still extended - a snapshot frozen 44-50 million years ago. The amber itself is beautifully clear and golden with only minor internal features, allowing a clean, unobstructed view of the insect within.
Baltic amber mosquito inclusions are among the most recognizable entombed insect specimens. This piece comes from Poland and is completely untreated. Diptera - the order that includes mosquitoes and gnats - are frequently represented in Baltic amber and carry strong appeal for both scientific study and collector use. A distinctive piece for display or natural history collections.
Natural Baltic amber with mosquito inclusion, Poland - sold loose.

About amber
Amber is fossilized tree resin, not a mineral, so it is very light and feels warm to the touch. At 2 to 2.5 on the Mohs scale it scratches very easily.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: amber is soft and melts or cracks with heat. Keep alcohol, perfume, hairspray and solvents away from it: they dissolve its surface.
Wear and storage
Display it on a stand or a soft cloth so it cannot roll or knock against harder stones, and store it wrapped in a soft cloth. It is soft enough to be scratched by a fingernail, so dust it gently.
Scale
True to scale: 16 × 14.4 × 4.7 mm
Shown next to a €1 coin (23.25 mm) in the exact ratio, so you can picture the real size. The outline is approximate.
