This is the quietest of the sky blue trillions, softer in contrast than its neighbours, with a pale even blue that holds close to the same tone across the whole triangle. Rather than hard flashes, the pavilion returns light in gentle overlapping planes, giving the stone a calm, almost pastel look. A single small dark pinpoint sits near the upper edge and a light nick shows at one girdle corner, both in keeping with VS. Transparency is full and the polish is smooth.

About topaz
Topaz is 8 on the Mohs scale, so it resists scratches well, but it has perfect cleavage along one plane, and a sharp knock can split it even when the surface shows no scratches. It suits pendants and earrings, and rings too if worn with care.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: vibration and sudden temperature changes can start a crack along its cleavage.
Wear and storage
Take it off for sport, gardening or heavy work: a sharp knock can split it. Harder stones such as sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
