Light hits this trillion hard and comes straight back, splitting into wide white blades across a vivid medium blue. The contrast between those bright planes and the darker blue holding in the recesses is the strongest in the group, and the 9mm outline gives it room to show. A small dark speck sits right at the top point, visible on close inspection and easily hidden by a claw at that corner. The interior is otherwise clean at VS.
Colorless Brazilian topaz becomes this blue through irradiation and a follow-up heating, and the color is stable for good. A stone with this much light return is worth setting where it will catch movement, so a drop earring or a pendant rather than a flush bezel. Topaz is among the stones traditionally associated with Sagittarius, which covers the late-year birthdays.

About topaz
Topaz is 8 on the Mohs scale, so it resists scratches well, but it has perfect cleavage along one plane, and a sharp knock can split it even when the surface shows no scratches. It suits pendants and earrings, and rings too if worn with care.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: vibration and sudden temperature changes can start a crack along its cleavage.
Wear and storage
Take it off for sport, gardening or heavy work: a sharp knock can split it. Harder stones such as sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.

This topaz is irradiated, the usual treatment for this color. Topaz should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. Ask for gentle pressure when setting, since a hard push can split it.
