At 7.05ct and 10.5mm square, this princess cut is a substantial stone in a pale, icy sky blue that stays light right across the table. The princess faceting sends a broad cross of white light out from the center toward the four corners, and the contrast between those bright arms and the cooler blue between them carries the whole face. VVS clarity shows: the interior is clean, with only the faintest texture visible under close light. The corners are sharp and the outline is a true square.
Colorless Brazilian rough irradiated and then heated is what produces this blue, permanently. Princess cuts hold their weight in depth rather than spread, so a 10.5mm square at 7ct sits high in a setting and needs claws that cover the corners, which are the vulnerable points on the shape. A stone this size works as a cocktail ring center or a large pendant. December counts blue topaz among its birthstones.
Natural sky blue topaz, 7.05ct princess cut, sold loose.

About topaz
Topaz is 8 on the Mohs scale, so it resists scratches well, but it has perfect cleavage along one plane, and a sharp knock can split it even when the surface shows no scratches. It suits pendants and earrings, and rings too if worn with care.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: vibration and sudden temperature changes can start a crack along its cleavage.
Wear and storage
Take it off for sport, gardening or heavy work: a sharp knock can split it. Harder stones such as sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This topaz is irradiated, the usual treatment for this color. Topaz should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. Ask for gentle pressure when setting, since a hard push can split it.
