A broad dark zone sits across the middle of this 0.90ct round in the photograph, where the pavilion is returning the black background rather than light; tilt the stone and it fills in. Around it the crown flashes bright white, and the colorless material is fully transparent throughout. Fine surface scratches show under direct light. The interior is clean at VVS and the 6mm outline is accurately round.
That dark center is the background showing through, not something in the stone, and it is the trade-off of photographing white gems on black: the contrast that makes the faceting readable also opens a window straight through the pavilion. Against skin or over a closed setting it disappears. This is untreated Brazilian topaz. November has topaz for its birthstone.

About topaz
Topaz is 8 on the Mohs scale, so it resists scratches well, but it has perfect cleavage along one plane, and a sharp knock can split it even when the surface shows no scratches. It suits pendants and earrings, and rings too if worn with care.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: vibration and sudden temperature changes can start a crack along its cleavage.
Wear and storage
Take it off for sport, gardening or heavy work: a sharp knock can split it. Harder stones such as sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This topaz is untreated. Topaz should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. Ask for gentle pressure when setting, since a hard push can split it.
