Narrower through the body than the wider pears in the group, this 1.67ct stone measures 8.9x5.9mm, which gives it a more tapered, elongated look and pushes the light toward the center line. A small dark point sits above the middle of the crown, visible on close inspection and consistent with the VVS grade. The colorless material is fully transparent and the polish is bright across every facet. The point is sharply finished.
Length-to-width ratio is what separates one pear from another more than weight does, and a narrower outline suits a design that needs to lead the eye downward. The material is untreated Brazilian topaz. The tip wants a V-claw in any setting. Anyone born in November can claim topaz as their stone.
Natural white topaz, tapered pear cut, sold loose.

About topaz
Topaz is 8 on the Mohs scale, so it resists scratches well, but it has perfect cleavage along one plane, and a sharp knock can split it even when the surface shows no scratches. It suits pendants and earrings, and rings too if worn with care.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: vibration and sudden temperature changes can start a crack along its cleavage.
Wear and storage
Take it off for sport, gardening or heavy work: a sharp knock can split it. Harder stones such as sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This topaz is untreated. Topaz should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. Ask for gentle pressure when setting, since a hard push can split it.
