Crisp and high in contrast, this 1.93ct cushion cuts light into hard-edged blocks of white and near-black, the strongest facet definition among the smaller cushions in the group. A single dark pinpoint sits just above center, visible on close inspection and consistent with the VVS grade. The outline is a squared cushion with gently rounded corners and an even girdle. The material is fully colorless with good transparency.
Sharp faceting matters more in colorless stones than in colored ones, since there is no body color to carry the stone when the light goes flat. Brazil produces clean colorless topaz like this without any treatment. At 7mm it works as a solitaire or at the center of a small halo, where its brightness holds up against the surrounding melee. Topaz is the November birthstone.

About topaz
Topaz is 8 on the Mohs scale, so it resists scratches well, but it has perfect cleavage along one plane, and a sharp knock can split it even when the surface shows no scratches. It suits pendants and earrings, and rings too if worn with care.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: vibration and sudden temperature changes can start a crack along its cleavage.
Wear and storage
Take it off for sport, gardening or heavy work: a sharp knock can split it. Harder stones such as sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.

This topaz is untreated. Topaz should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. Ask for gentle pressure when setting, since a hard push can split it.
