Fifty colorless topaz rounds at 1.1mm each, cut as full brilliants rather than simplified single cuts, which is what keeps stones this small returning any light at all. The photograph shows a representative handful scattered on black so the cutting style and the transparency can be judged; the listing is for the parcel of fifty. The material is bright and completely clear with no tint. At this diameter individual grading is academic, but the stones are clean to the eye.
Melee at just over a millimetre is used to fill pavé, to line a shank, or to ring a larger center stone, and it is bought by the parcel because a setter will always lose one or two along the way. The parcel is untreated Brazilian topaz. White topaz is the standard budget stand-in for diamond melee and takes a comparable polish. Topaz is November's birthstone.

About topaz
Topaz is 8 on the Mohs scale, so it resists scratches well, but it has perfect cleavage along one plane, and a sharp knock can split it even when the surface shows no scratches. It suits pendants and earrings, and rings too if worn with care.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: vibration and sudden temperature changes can start a crack along its cleavage.
Wear and storage
Take it off for sport, gardening or heavy work: a sharp knock can split it. Harder stones such as sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
These stones are untreated. Topaz should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. Ask for gentle pressure when setting, since a hard push can split it.
