A lot of four round ruby cabochons from Thailand, laid out in a graded row of tone. The leftmost stone is the palest, a soft rose-pink with an open, translucent body. The second is the darkest, a deep wine-crimson with dark mineral specks gathered around its upper edge. The third sits in between, a purplish-red carrying a scatter of dark inclusions across its dome, and the fourth returns to a brighter pink-magenta. Each is polished to a smooth, high dome with no facets.
Thai ruby has long been cut as cabochon when the material is too included to face up well as a faceted stone, and the domed form suits the dense color. Heat is a standard, accepted treatment for ruby. Corundum's hardness of 9 makes these practical for rings and everyday pieces, and at 2.5 to 2.6mm the four stones suit a row setting, a cluster, or matched accent positions. Ruby is the July birthstone.
Natural Thai ruby cabochons, July birthstone, sold as a lot of 4 stones.

About ruby
Ruby is the red variety of the mineral corundum. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: cabochons usually contain fine inclusions or fissures that vibration and heat can open.
Wear and storage
Ruby is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
These stones are heated, and the color from heating is stable. Ruby handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
