A softer, milkier set of five round cabochons. Two of them are almost uniform in color, one a gentle sea-green, the other a calm aqua-blue, both with an even wash from edge to edge and no marbling to speak of. Of the remaining three, one has a broad turquoise band arcing across an otherwise white dome, another carries delicate grey-blue wisps over a near-white body, and the last is pale blue with light mottling gathered towards one side. The overall impression is quiet and pastel, closer to sea foam than to deep Caribbean water.
Pale larimar of this kind comes from the same Barahona deposit as the darker material and is simply lower in copper, the element responsible for the blue. Evenly toned cabochons are less common than patterned ones, since the mineral grows in radiating fibrous clusters that show up as white figure. These stones are untreated. Larimar's 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale makes it best suited to earrings, pendants and protected settings. The pastel tones here work particularly well against silver and white gold, and the two even-colored stones would make a neat pair of studs.

About larimar
Larimar is a blue variety of the mineral pectolite, found only in the Dominican Republic. At 4.5 to 5 on the Mohs scale it is soft, so it suits pendants and earrings better than rings.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: larimar is soft and sensitive to heat.
Wear and storage
Below 7 on the Mohs scale, it can be scratched even by household dust, which contains quartz. It suits pendants, earrings and brooches better than rings worn every day. Store it on its own in a soft pouch, away from harder stones.
For your jeweler
These stones are untreated. Larimar should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. A bezel or another protective setting suits it best.
