5 Pieces Natural Larimar 9.18ct 7mm Round Cabochon

Five round larimar cabochons with high, smoothly polished domes and a genuine spread of color across the set. Two carry a clear turquoise-blue body marbled with soft white clouds, one of them crossed by a broad white streak that sweeps down through the blue. A third leans green, a quiet sea-green with a small patch of dark host rock resting at one edge. The last two are the palest of the five, an ice-blue with mint undertones, one lightly dusted with fine dark mineral specks. Between them they cover most of the tonal range larimar is known for, from clear turquoise down to the softest blue-white.

Larimar is the blue variety of pectolite and comes from one place only, the Sierra de Bahoruco in Barahona Province, in the southwest of the Dominican Republic. The blue comes from copper in the mineral's structure, while the white patterning follows the fibrous way pectolite grows, which is why no two cabochons carry the same figure. These are untreated and undyed. Larimar sits at 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale, so it is happiest in earrings, pendants and protected bezel settings. A 7mm round is a straightforward size to set, whether as studs or as accents around a larger center stone.
