Clear and luminous, these blue aura quartz spheres show a cool aqua-blue color with good translucency that allows light to pass through the body, creating a glowing quality from within. The blue sits between teal and sky-blue, with a subtle metallic shimmer at the surface where the light catches the coating directly. Internal veil-like inclusions from the natural quartz are visible through the body, consistent with the semi-transparent clarity of the material. Some spheres show a localised iridescent patch where the thin-film character of the coating is more apparent under raking light. At 21-25mm these are the largest spheres in the aura series.

Aura quartz is natural quartz that has been color-treated through vacuum vapor deposition, a process in which metal atoms are bonded to the crystal surface under high temperature and low pressure. The aqua-blue color of this variety is produced by the deposition of gold onto the quartz surface; gold, when applied as an ultra-thin bonded film, creates the characteristic blue and teal interference colors through interaction with light at the coating layer, rather than the yellow color that bulk gold displays. Being a surface treatment rather than a body-color change, the coating can be scratched or gradually worn by abrasion, so these spheres are best kept on a display stand and away from hard or rough surfaces to preserve the aqua finish long-term.
