A medium teal oval with strong contrast between its body color and its inclusions. The green-blue runs a touch greyer than the other stones from this parcel, and set against it a group of rounded black crystal inclusions is plainly visible through the lower half, the largest occupying much of the lower right quarter, with smaller dark green spots scattered above them. Semi-transparent, with the inclusions reading as distinct dark shapes rather than as general cloudiness.
Most of the Madagascan production carries inclusions like these, and clean transparent pieces are very rare. This stone is untreated. At 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale the durability is good, and at 11x9.5mm the oval has a broad face for 3.70ct. A straightforward way to own a well-sized example of a species that is genuinely hard to find.

About grandidierite
Grandidierite is 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale, but it has perfect cleavage along one plane, so it needs protection from sharp knocks.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: vibration and sudden temperature changes can start a crack along its cleavage.
Wear and storage
Take it off for sport, gardening or heavy work: a sharp knock can split it. Harder stones such as topaz, sapphire and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.

This grandidierite is untreated. Grandidierite should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. Ask for gentle pressure when setting, since a hard push can split it.
