Lot Natural Grandidierite Rough Crystals 43.6ct

A pale, mixed parcel of roughly twenty-two grandidierite fragments. Most sit at the light end of the color range: pale sea-blue and mint green laid over cream and near-colorless matrix, with frosted rather than glassy surfaces on much of the material. A few pieces carry a bright teal patch on an otherwise pale fragment, which shows neatly where the color concentrates inside the host rock. The lot also includes one soft grey-lavender piece and one warm peach-tan fragment, giving it more tonal spread than a single-color parcel would have, and light iron staining shows on several edges.

Most Madagascan production comes out at this paler end of the range. The parcel shows the material as it is found, before any sorting for color. Untreated. Grandidierite is 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale and polishes well, so the better-colored pieces here would take a small cabochon while the paler ones serve as study and reference material. Pieces measure roughly 8 to 14mm, sold as the complete 43.6ct parcel.
