A small elongated oval pink ruby from Madagascar in a soft dusty rose with a faint mauve undertone. The surface has a gentle satiny quality, and a broad pale panel runs down the center of the table where the material lightens. A single small dark speck sits below the center, and faint darker mottling drifts through the lower half. The tone is quiet and even rather than vivid.
Pink ruby sits at the lighter end of the corundum color range, where saturation alone separates it from pink sapphire in the trade. Heat is a standard, accepted treatment for ruby. Corundum's hardness of 9 makes it durable enough for daily wear, and at 0.24ct and 2.8-3x2.3mm this small oval suits accent positions, melee-set clusters, or a pair of studs. Ruby is the July birthstone.
Natural Madagascar pink ruby, July birthstone, sold loose.

About ruby
Ruby is the red variety of the mineral corundum. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Ultrasonic and steam cleaners are usually fine for a faceted ruby, but skip them if the stone has fissures that reach the surface.
Wear and storage
Ruby is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This ruby is heated, and the color from heating is stable. Ruby handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
