A small oval pink ruby from Madagascar in a muted purplish-rose, soft and subdued in tone. The face has a satiny, matte quality across the whole surface, with the color sitting evenly from edge to edge. A tiny greenish speck rests near the upper right shoulder, and a small magenta glint shows low on the left where the material opens up slightly.
Corundum in this softer pink-purple range is common in Madagascar and is separated from pink sapphire by saturation alone. Heat is a standard, accepted treatment for ruby. Corundum's hardness of 9 makes it durable enough for daily wear, and at 0.28ct and 2.8-3x2.3mm this small oval suits melee positions, a cluster, or a pair of small studs. Ruby is the July birthstone.
Natural Madagascar pink ruby, July birthstone, sold loose.

About ruby
Ruby is the red variety of the mineral corundum. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Ultrasonic and steam cleaners are usually fine for a faceted ruby, but skip them if the stone has fissures that reach the surface.
Wear and storage
Ruby is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This ruby is heated, and the color from heating is stable. Ruby handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
