A high-dome oval cabochon of natural Madagascar pink ruby measuring 7.6x6.3mm and weighing 2.40 carats. The polished surface presents a vivid warm pink to pink-red body color, semi-transparent with a glowing inner depth that comes through the dome evenly. The slightly elongated oval at 7.6x6.3mm gives this cabochon a classic oval silhouette suited to standard bezel and prong settings. Heat treatment has enhanced the color to bring out the full warmth of the pink tone.
Pink ruby from Madagascar has a characteristic warm rosy-pink hue that sits at the lighter, softer end of the ruby color range - distinct from the deeper reds of heated Mozambican or Thai material. At 2.40 carats and 7.6x6.3mm, this cabochon has a strong presence as a feature stone for a ring or pendant centerpiece. Well suited for designers working with smooth-dome cabochon settings in silver or gold.
Natural pink ruby, July birthstone - sold loose.

About ruby
Ruby is the red variety of the mineral corundum. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: cabochons usually contain fine inclusions or fissures that vibration and heat can open.
Wear and storage
Ruby is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This ruby is heated, and the color from heating is stable. Ruby handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
