An oval-cut natural ruby from Madagascar, 0.22 carats, measuring 4.7x3.5mm. Untreated, the stone's color is entirely natural with no heat enhancement applied. The oval is on the larger side for the weight, giving a generous face area. Clarity is I3, with inclusions visible in the stone, which is common in unheated ruby at this price point where the stone is kept in its natural state.
Unheated rubies from Madagascar are less prevalent than heat-treated material - most commercial ruby from the island is treated as standard. For buyers specifically seeking an untreated natural ruby at an accessible price, this is a straightforward option. Suitable as a loose natural ruby for setting or collecting. Natural ruby, July birthstone.

About ruby
Ruby is the red variety of the mineral corundum. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Ultrasonic and steam cleaners are usually fine for a faceted ruby, but skip them if the stone has fissures that reach the surface.
Wear and storage
Ruby is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This ruby is untreated. Ruby handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
