An oval-cut natural ruby from Madagascar, 0.43 carats, measuring 5.5x4.6mm with a notably shallow profile depth of 1.9mm. The wide, flat cut gives this stone an unusually broad face spread for its weight - the warm pinkish-red of heated Malagasy ruby shows well across the generous 5.5x4.6mm face, making the stone read larger than its carat weight suggests. Clarity is SI, inclusions present under a loupe but the stone transparent and presenting the color cleanly across the wide face.
The low-profile cutting style maximizes face visibility, which suits bezel and channel settings particularly well - the shallow depth seats the stone flat in most mounts. Madagascar is the primary source of affordable natural ruby globally, with heat treatment applied as standard to most commercial material from the island. Natural ruby, loose gemstone, July birthstone.

About ruby
Ruby is the red variety of the mineral corundum. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Ultrasonic and steam cleaners are usually fine for a faceted ruby, but skip them if the stone has fissures that reach the surface.
Wear and storage
Ruby is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This ruby is heated, and the color from heating is stable. Ruby handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
