A natural oval-cut ruby from Madagascar, weighing 0.61 carats and measuring 6.1x4.2mm. The elongated oval at 6.1x4.2mm creates a stretched outline with a long face that maximizes the visual length for the weight. SI clarity allows good transparency through the faceted body, and the warm red of heat-treated Malagasy ruby carries clearly face-up along the full 6.1mm length.
Madagascar is the world's leading source of commercial natural ruby, producing a wide range of heated oval material for the jewelry trade. The elongated oval at 6.1x4.2mm suits pendant settings and ring designs where a longer stone profile is an advantage. Heat treatment is applied as standard across Madagascar's commercial ruby output.
Natural ruby, July birthstone - sold loose.

About ruby
Ruby is the red variety of the mineral corundum. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Ultrasonic and steam cleaners are usually fine for a faceted ruby, but skip them if the stone has fissures that reach the surface.
Wear and storage
Ruby is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This ruby is heated, and the color from heating is stable. Ruby handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
