A natural oval cabochon of Kenya ruby, weighing 1.177 carats and measuring 7.5x6mm. The well-proportioned oval at 7.5x6mm gives a broad dome with strong face coverage. VS clarity is notably clean for a ruby cabochon at this price point - the polished dome shows the warm, well-saturated red of Kenyan ruby with minimal inclusions and good internal transparency. The color is vivid and deep through the stone.
Kenya is an established ruby-producing country with deposits in several regions, known for material with well-saturated red tones. VS clarity in a ruby cabochon marks this stone as considerably cleaner internally than most commercial material at this weight class. Heat treatment has been applied to enhance the natural color. At 7.5x6mm and over a carat, this oval cabochon is a strong choice for a pendant or ring feature stone where clarity matters alongside color.
Natural Kenya ruby, July birthstone - sold loose.

About ruby
Ruby is the red variety of the mineral corundum. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: cabochons usually contain fine inclusions or fissures that vibration and heat can open.
Wear and storage
Ruby is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This ruby is heated, and the color from heating is stable. Ruby handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
