A natural marquise-cut ruby from Africa, weighing 1.57 carats and measuring 11x5.4mm. The marquise outline with its pointed tips stretches the stone to an impressive 11mm in length, creating a dramatically elongated silhouette that maximizes visual presence for the weight. The body is semi-transparent with a warm red tone characteristic of heat-treated African ruby distributed through the long, slender form. The pointed ends give the cut its distinctive dramatic flair.
The marquise silhouette at 11mm makes this stone stand out as an unusual and attention-catching choice compared to the more common oval and round forms. It suits pendant settings and elongated ring designs where the extended length adds an angular elegance. Heat treatment has been applied to enhance color and clarity. At 1.57ct, this ruby delivers a striking visual return well beyond what a round or oval of the same weight would provide.
Natural ruby, marquise cut, July birthstone - sold loose.

About ruby
Ruby is the red variety of the mineral corundum. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Ultrasonic and steam cleaners are usually fine for a faceted ruby, but skip them if the stone has fissures that reach the surface.
Wear and storage
Ruby is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This ruby is heated, and the color from heating is stable. Ruby handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
