A substantial oval cabochon of natural Madagascar ruby, weighing 3.13 carats and measuring 8.3x7.1mm. At over three carats, this is one of the larger ruby cabochons in the commercial range, and the broad 8.3x7.1mm oval face delivers a powerful presence. SI clarity means better transparency than many cabochon rubies at this weight, and the warm red body color of heated Malagasy ruby flows clearly through the polished dome from edge to center.
Madagascar is the world's largest supplier of commercial natural ruby, and heat treatment is applied as standard across the island's output to maximize color and clarity. At 3.13ct and 8.3x7.1mm, this oval cabochon is a prominent feature stone well suited to a bold ring centerpiece or large pendant setting where size and smooth dome presence are needed.
Natural ruby cabochon, July birthstone - sold loose.

About ruby
Ruby is the red variety of the mineral corundum. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: cabochons usually contain fine inclusions or fissures that vibration and heat can open.
Wear and storage
Ruby is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This ruby is heated, and the color from heating is stable. Ruby handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
