This single tanzanite round shows an attractive two-tone effect as light travels through it: the upper crown reads a cool teal-blue, while the color warms into a soft violet-lavender through the lower body and pavilion. A fine silky inclusion is visible toward the lower portion of the stone, part of the natural internal texture typical of unenhanced tanzanite.
This stone was mined in the Merelani Hills of Tanzania, the only place in the world where tanzanite occurs naturally, and has received the standard heat treatment used across the trade to develop its blue-violet color. As the official December birthstone, it makes a meaningful gift as well as an elegant small accent stone for a ring or pendant.

About tanzanite
Tanzanite is the blue to violet variety of the mineral zoisite. At 6 to 7 on the Mohs scale, with perfect cleavage and fair toughness, it is softer and more fragile than sapphire, so it needs gentle handling.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: vibration and sudden temperature changes can start a crack along its cleavage.
Wear and storage
Take it off for sport, gardening or heavy work: a sharp knock can split it. With a hardness below 7 it can be scratched even by quartz, which is found in household dust, so wipe it gently and store it on its own in a soft pouch. It suits pendants and earrings better than an everyday ring.

This tanzanite is heated, and the color from heating is stable. Tanzanite should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. Ask for gentle pressure when setting, since a hard push can split it.
