A lot of four round ruby cabochons from Thailand running from plum through to bright cherry. The leftmost is a dark purplish-red, and the second carries the most obvious natural marker in the group: a yellowish-brown healed fracture breaking the surface near its upper left, with dark specks trailing below it. The third is the brightest, a clear cherry-red, and the fourth is a medium raspberry. All four are smooth high domes.
Surface-reaching healed fractures like the one on the second stone are formed during crystal growth and are a normal feature of cabochon-grade ruby. Heat is a standard, accepted treatment for ruby. Corundum's hardness of 9 makes these practical for rings and everyday wear, and at 2.5 to 2.7mm the four suit a graded row, a cluster, or matched accents. Ruby is the July birthstone.
Natural Thai ruby cabochons, July birthstone, sold as a lot of 4 stones.

About ruby
Ruby is the red variety of the mineral corundum. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: cabochons usually contain fine inclusions or fissures that vibration and heat can open.
Wear and storage
Ruby is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
These stones are heated, and the color from heating is stable. Ruby handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
