An andesine feldspar in a 6.18ct pear cut, 15.3x11.3mm, from Africa. The stone shows a warm peachy-salmon body color with some brownish matrix visible at the crown. Heavy windowing is present in the faceted body, with SI clarity and various natural inclusions. The warm salmon tones are well-suited to the classic pear outline.
Andesine is a plagioclase feldspar with a warm reddish-orange to salmon color range found in Africa. At 6.18ct in a pear shape this is a substantial accent stone, suited to a drop pendant or accent earring where the elongated outline can be appreciated. The warm salmon color pairs well with gold tones. Untreated, natural origin.

About andesine
Andesine is a plagioclase feldspar, the same mineral family as labradorite and sunstone. Like all feldspars it is 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale with two perfect cleavage directions, so it needs protection from knocks.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: vibration and heat can split it along its cleavage.
Wear and storage
Take it off for sport, gardening or heavy work, where a knock is most likely to split it along its cleavage. Below 7 on the Mohs scale it can be scratched even by quartz in household dust, so store it on its own in a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This andesine is untreated. Andesine should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. Ask for gentle pressure when setting, since a hard push can split it.
