A large oval charoite cabochon with the species' signature swirling, fibrous texture in deep violet-purple, shot through with paler lilac and silvery-lavender streaks that flow across the dome like turbulent water. A bright silky sheen catches the light along the lower right of the stone, following the direction of the fibrous structure beneath the polished surface, while darker near-black zones add depth and contrast to the swirl pattern.
Charoite is found in only one place on Earth, the Chara River region of Siberia, Russia, where it formed through the contact metamorphism of limestone by alkaline igneous intrusions. Its distinctive swirling texture comes from interlocking fibrous crystals that also produce the silky sheen visible on well-polished pieces. Untreated and natural. At 30x20mm this is a substantial cabochon well suited to a statement pendant or a focal piece in a collection, and its single-locality origin makes it a genuinely rare material among ornamental stones.

About charoite
Charoite is a rare purple mineral known from a single area in Siberia, Russia, with swirling, silky fibers. At 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale it scratches more easily than most gems.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: it is a fibrous stone that heat and vibration can crack.
Wear and storage
Below 7 on the Mohs scale, it can be scratched even by household dust, which contains quartz. It suits pendants, earrings and brooches better than rings worn every day. Store it on its own in a soft pouch, away from harder stones.
For your jeweler
This charoite is untreated. Charoite should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. A bezel or another protective setting suits it best.
