A pale champagne-grey diaspore cushion cut with a soft, cushioned outline and a bright, lively facet pattern. At 5x4.8mm the stone is compact but well cut, with VS clarity giving it a clean, transparent face-up appearance and a scattering of fine pinpoint inclusions visible only under magnification.
Diaspore is found in facetable quality almost exclusively in the Ilbir Mountains of Turkey, where it is also sold under the trade name Zultanite. It is prized for a genuine color-change effect, shifting between champagne, green, and pink or raspberry tones depending on the light source, a result of strong pleochroism in the crystal structure. This stone is untreated, as is standard for the species. Diaspore's durability makes it suitable for ring or pendant use, and its limited geographic source gives it a collector appeal similar to more famous color-change gems.

About diaspore
Diaspore is 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, but its perfect cleavage makes it fragile under knocks.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: vibration and sudden temperature changes can start a crack along its cleavage.
Wear and storage
Take it off for sport, gardening or heavy work: a sharp knock can split it. With a hardness below 7 it can be scratched even by quartz, which is found in household dust, so wipe it gently and store it on its own in a soft pouch. It suits pendants and earrings better than an everyday ring.

This diaspore is untreated. Diaspore should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. Ask for gentle pressure when setting, since a hard push can split it.
