The intergrown crystal mass sits on a warm reddish-brown host rock matrix that contrasts beautifully with the green. Dioptase is a rare copper cyclosilicate found in arid oxidised copper deposits, and the Democratic Republic of Congo is a classic locality for fine specimens.
