A natural green kornerupine in a 1.01ct baguette cut, 9.5x4mm, from Madagascar. The stone shows a muted olive-green to greenish-grey body color, semi-transparent. Fine inclusions and some internal features are visible within the elongated baguette outline - the SI clarity is typical for kornerupine at this size. The stone has a complex, slightly subdued green tone as shown in the product photos.

About kornerupine
Kornerupine is 6 to 7 on the Mohs scale with two good cleavage planes, so it needs protection from knocks and scratches.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: vibration and sudden temperature changes can start a crack along its cleavage.
Wear and storage
Take it off for sport, gardening or heavy work: a sharp knock can split it. With a hardness below 7 it can be scratched even by quartz, which is found in household dust, so wipe it gently and store it on its own in a soft pouch. It suits pendants and earrings better than an everyday ring.

This kornerupine is untreated. Kornerupine should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. Ask for gentle pressure when setting, since a hard push can split it.
