Warm reddish orange throughout, deepening to a rich brick red at the two points and lightening to a soft peach orange across the center of the table. The marquise is cut long and narrow, and the elongated outline stretches the color into bands that shift as the stone turns. A small group of pale crystal inclusions sits near one point, easy to see against the darker red there, and a few fine pinpoints scatter through the middle, consistent with the VS grade. Facet junctions are crisp and the polish is bright, so the stone returns light cleanly from end to end.
Nigeria is one of the two main sources of gem spessartine alongside Namibia, and Nigerian material often runs toward this warmer, more red-leaning orange rather than the pure Fanta tone. The stone is untreated. A marquise this elongated suits a pendant or a north-south set ring, where the long axis can do the work. As a garnet it also serves as a January birthstone.

About garnet
Garnet is a family of closely related minerals, including rhodolite, spessartine, grossular and tsavorite. At 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale with no cleavage, it is a good stone for everyday wear.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. An ultrasonic cleaner is usually fine for a clean faceted garnet, but skip steam: sudden temperature changes can crack it.
Wear and storage
Garnet is hard enough for everyday wear, and it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Harder stones such as topaz, sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.

This garnet is untreated. Garnet takes normal setting well, but keep it out of direct torch flame: sudden heat can crack it or change its color.
