A deep brownish red pear that reads almost black across the shoulders and opens to a glowing ember red through the center when light passes behind it. The tone is dark and dense, so the stone holds its color steadily rather than flashing, and the broad flat facets give it a still, deliberate look. Fine internal fractures and dark needles cross the middle, visible where the light comes through, consistent with the SI grade. A few small nicks sit along the girdle near the base, low enough to disappear under a setting.
Spessartine shades into this dark red where its chemistry runs toward almandine, and African material covers the whole range from bright orange through to deep red. The stone is untreated. At 10.9x8.7mm the pear has real presence and suits a pendant, where backlight brings out the red that the face-up view keeps hidden. As a garnet it also serves as a January birthstone.

About garnet
Garnet is a family of closely related minerals, including rhodolite, spessartine, grossular and tsavorite. At 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale with no cleavage, it is a good stone for everyday wear.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. An ultrasonic cleaner is usually fine for a clean faceted garnet, but skip steam: sudden temperature changes can crack it.
Wear and storage
Garnet is hard enough for everyday wear, and it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Harder stones such as topaz, sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.

This garnet is untreated. Garnet takes normal setting well, but keep it out of direct torch flame: sudden heat can crack it or change its color.
