Bright pure orange with no red or brown pulling at it, the color spessartine is best known for. The oval is cut with a broad table and softly rounded corners, and the center reads a shade lighter and more golden than the saturated rim, giving the stone a lit core. Fine internal wisps and a soft cloud sit under the table, visible when the stone is tilted into the light and consistent with the SI grade. The polish is clean and the facets meet neatly, so even at this size it returns plenty of light.
Namibia is the source most closely associated with this clear, unmuddied orange. The stone is untreated. At 6.2x5.2mm it is a practical size for a stud earring, a small pendant, or an accent beside a larger center stone. As a garnet it also serves as a January birthstone.

About garnet
Garnet is a family of closely related minerals, including rhodolite, spessartine, grossular and tsavorite. At 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale with no cleavage, it is a good stone for everyday wear.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. An ultrasonic cleaner is usually fine for a clean faceted garnet, but skip steam: sudden temperature changes can crack it.
Wear and storage
Garnet is hard enough for everyday wear, and it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Harder stones such as topaz, sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.

This garnet is untreated. Garnet takes normal setting well, but keep it out of direct torch flame: sudden heat can crack it or change its color.
