Two elongated cushions in a deep, saturated brown with a warm amber core running through the middle of each stone. The color holds its depth toward the base and lightens a little toward the top, so each stone has a clear interior structure rather than one flat tone. The two are closely matched in outline and depth of color, and the natural inclusions visible are small.
The contrast between the darker outer color and the warmer interior is the appeal here, and it survives being set, since the amber core sits in the body of the stone rather than at the surface. Brazilian in origin and untreated. About smoky quartz
Smoky quartz is the brown to gray variety of quartz. At 7 on the Mohs scale with no cleavage, it is a durable stone for everyday wear.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. An ultrasonic cleaner is usually fine for a clean faceted smoky quartz, but skip steam: sudden heat can crack quartz or change its color.
Wear and storage
Smoky quartz is hard enough for everyday wear, and it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Harder stones such as topaz, sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.

These stones are untreated. Smoky quartz takes normal setting well, but keep it out of direct torch flame: sudden heat can crack it or change its color.
