Deep brick red with a warm orange core, and an interior full of visible structure: fine silky fibers and pale veils run in parallel sweeps through the middle of the stone, catching light with a soft sheen. A few small dark green-black specks sit near the upper left edge, and the veiling continues across most of the face, consistent with the SI grade. The oval is cut with a wide table and shallow crown, which lets all of that internal texture read clearly. Face up the color is a warm saturated red-orange, shifting toward pure orange where the light gathers at the center.
Namibian spessartine at the redder end of its range often carries this kind of fibrous internal texture. The stone is untreated. At 8.7x7.3mm it makes a good pendant, where the internal detail is part of what there is to look at. As a garnet it also serves as a January birthstone.

About garnet
Garnet is a family of closely related minerals, including rhodolite, spessartine, grossular and tsavorite. At 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale with no cleavage, it is a good stone for everyday wear.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. An ultrasonic cleaner is usually fine for a clean faceted garnet, but skip steam: sudden temperature changes can crack it.
Wear and storage
Garnet is hard enough for everyday wear, and it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Harder stones such as topaz, sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.

This garnet is untreated. Garnet takes normal setting well, but keep it out of direct torch flame: sudden heat can crack it or change its color.
