A muted salmon orange with a soft brownish cast, quieter in tone than the vivid stones in this group. The material is dense and translucent with a fine grainy texture running through it, so light diffuses rather than passing straight through, and the surface takes on a gentle satin quality under direct light. A small dark speck sits toward the right edge. The oval is cut with many small facets across a shallow crown, spreading 3.22ct across a broad 8.3x6.4mm face.
Namibian spessartine includes this softer, more muted material alongside the bright orange it is better known for. The stone is untreated. The subdued tone suits anyone who prefers a warm earthy orange over a vivid one, and at this size it makes a comfortable pendant or ring center stone. As a garnet it also serves as a January birthstone.

About garnet
Garnet is a family of closely related minerals, including rhodolite, spessartine, grossular and tsavorite. At 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale with no cleavage, it is a good stone for everyday wear.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. An ultrasonic cleaner is usually fine for a clean faceted garnet, but skip steam: sudden temperature changes can crack it.
Wear and storage
Garnet is hard enough for everyday wear, and it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Harder stones such as topaz, sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.

This garnet is untreated. Garnet takes normal setting well, but keep it out of direct torch flame: sudden heat can crack it or change its color.
